Today the second reading of the Shared Parental Leave and Pay (Bereavement) Bill was debated in Parliament. This is an issue I have campaigned on since I first met my constituent, Aaron, at a constituency surgery in Broxtowe, when he had his 3-week old son Tim in his arms and had found a gap in the law relating to being eligible for leave following death in childbirth.
I was determined to change this. I was delighted that when unfortunately I was unsuccessful in the Private Members' Bill ballot, Chris Elmore MP took up the Bill and is taking it through Parliament. This is a cross-party Bill and I was incredibly pleased today to see it get one step closer to becoming law. I look forward to continuing to work with Chris and Minister Kevin Hollinrake MP who has also been instrumental, in helping to make this change happen.
