I voted for the amendments to tighten up holes in the Safety of Rwanda Bill - those amendments failed. I did so as I believed my constituents in Broxtowe deserve a Bill that is tougher than ever before on illegal migration. I still believe this to be true.
However, it has become clear that the choice was between voting for the Safety of Rwanda Bill or having no Bill at all. Therefore, I chose to support this Bill.
I may still hold some reservations, but we need to make progress now and not wait any longer. It is time to deliver on our promise to constituents and ensure that we do more than ever before to tackle illegal migration.
