I am delighted that we are one step closer to securing 'Access for All', and therefore our lifts, at Beeston Station. The stairs make the Station difficult to manoeuvre for those with disabilities, as well as those with bikes or pushchairs.
Once I was elected one of my first priorities was to lobby the Treasury for appropriate funding to ensure that Beeston Station was accessible for all.
This led the Chancellor to announce in his 2020 Spring Budget Statement that Beeston Station was to be awarded money in the Government’s ‘Access for All’ scheme. Beeston had not been part of the scheme prior to this.
I want to thank Broxtowe Borough Council who have helped us progress further with an agreement over the land we need to make this project happen. Thanks also to Friends of Beeston Station for all of their excellent work!
The improved Station access is sure to have a positive impact on many in our community and I will continue to ensure this project is designed and delivered in accordance with the voices of local people.
