I have been driving forward the Towns Fund agenda in Parliament to ensure that Broxtowe is not left behind. I am in regular contact with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) in pushing forward the Stapleford Towns Fund.
I am really pleased that on 15th June 2020 the Department published its Towns Fund guidance. The link to the guidance can be found here. I will be pushing for the Town Deal Board and Broxtowe Borough Council to have the Town Investment Plan ready to submit for the October 2020 cohort.
At the Coronavirus: Downing Street briefing on 06.05.2020 Robert Jenrick, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, who has visited Stapleford twice in the last 6 months, said, “The 100 towns benefiting from our £3.6 billion Towns Fund will continue to receive our support. And we will be working at pace with them in the months ahead.”
I made ‘Investing in our High Streets’ one of my core priorities in Broxtowe during the last general election campaign because I knew that it was one of your priorities. Regenerating town centres and local businesses is a core part of my 6-point plan for Broxtowe. Now as much as ever, because of COVID-19, our high streets are going to need all the investment those can get and we have to support local businesses once the Government’s Five Tests are met and the restrictions are lifted. Stapleford Town Centre was chosen as one of 100 towns to receive funding. It is in line to receive up to £25 million worth of investment.
The Towns Fund will focus on three key areas as follows:
- Urban regeneration, planning and land use
- Skills and enterprise infrastructure
- Connectivity
The Stapleford Towns Deal Executive Board continue to meet virtually. I am driving forward their agenda in Parliament because Broxtowe must be remembered in Government. I am in regular contact with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) in pushing forward the Stapleford Towns Fund.
