Today I was delighted to witness the start of the work needed to install lifts at Beeston Station. It is a project I embarked on very soon after becoming the Member of Parliament for Broxtowe and I know it was something that my predecessor had previously worked on. Before the 2020 Budget, Beeston Station was not included in the ‘Access for All’ scheme; I thought this was wrong, therefore I lobbied my relevant Government colleagues to let them know why this Station needed increased accessibility. My colleagues listened and on 11 March 2020 Beeston Station was added to the scheme on Budget Day. I would like to thank everyone I have engaged with in the process including Friends of Beeston Station, Network Rail, East Midlands Railway, Broxtowe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.
I look forward to following the progress and ultimately having lifts at Beeston Station.
