Since first being elected I have worked alongside The Friends of Bennerley Viaduct in order to secure an Eastern Ramp at the Awsworth end. The planning application has now gone live to introduce: a ramp, car park and visitor centre. I am delighted that Government funding has been secured through Kimberley’s successful Levelling Up Fund Bid for this project.
The ‘Iron Giant’ is an incredible landmark that people come to walk across, photograph and learn about the history. So it is right that it is as accessible as possible. I recently brought Olympic Cyclist and Active Travel Commissioner Chris Boardman MBE to the Viaduct to lay out for him why we need our Eastern Ramp. A ramp and car park will improve access for walking, wheeling and cycling and the visitor centre will allow more people to learn about the history of this iconic local structure.
