Attenborough Floodgate Update
Earlier today I was contacted by local Nottinghamshire County Councillor, Eric Kerry, who explained that residents were very concerned that floodgates at Attenborough had not been closed.
I contacted the Environment Agency directly and quickly got the following response:
‘Good Afternoon Darren,
Thank you for raising the concerns of Attenborough residents around closure of the floodgates.
We can confirm that our teams are on their way to close the gates and we expect them to be fully closed within the next few hours, hopefully sooner.
We understand the concerns of local residents given the water levels. Due to the extremely widespread and rapid nature of the flooding, the water levels have come up much faster than we anticipated locally, ahead of our usual triggers for shutting the gates. Our resources are working hard across a very wide area with challenges due to water on the roads. The closure of the floodgates is a priority and we can assure you this hasn't been forgotten.
The Environment Agency's Incident Hotline is available 24-hours on 0800 80 70 60 to report any concerns around flooding and flood defences.
Many thanks,
Becky Sharpe (on behalf of Gretchen Moser, Area Duty Manager)’
I have now visited Attenborough and seen the gates are being closed.
Thank you to everyone who is working so hard in such tricky conditions.
