It was brilliant to attend the launch of the East Midlands devolution deal this afternoon at Rolls-Royce in Derby. Serving as both the MP for Broxtowe and as Co-Chair of the Midlands Engine All-Party Parliamentary Group, I have been pushing hard to bring extra investment into the area.
This deal is the first of its kind in the UK bringing together Nottinghamshire, Nottingham, Derbyshire and Derby in a deal worth an additional £38 million per year for the next 30 years in funding to deliver key services for local people.
The new Mayoral Combined Authority will bring extra powers for transport, housing, economic development and skills down to the regional level.
Ensuring that decisions are taken locally for the communities that are affected by them is essential to the levelling up agenda and I am delighted to be backing this ground-breaking Deal will benefit people right here in Broxtowe.
