Broxtowe MP, Darren Henry was pleased to welcome the Chancellor Rishi Sunak on a visit to Beeston on Thursday 16th June to meet with local businesses on the High Road. Darren and Rishi visited Fred Hallam Greengrocers and Fishmongers, a staple of Beeston’s high street for the last 100 years as well as Hairven, an award-winning Hair and Beauty Salon.
With the present cost of living crisis, it is now more than ever important that the Government supports businesses to help grow our economy. Darren impressed to the Chancellor about opportunities to support the economy in Broxtowe such as progressing with a railway station at Toton and supporting the Stapleford Towns Deal and Kimberley Levelling Up bid. Additionally, Broxtowe’s MP highlighted the need to focus on apprenticeships and to support women in business.
Darren commented “I promised my constituents that I would take their concerns to the highest level and I was pleased to invite the Chancellor to Beeston. We spoke about the cost of living and what more can be done to support local people. We talked about the importance of local businesses to our economy and I was pleased to introduce him to both Fred Hallam’s and Hairven.
It was great to meet with the several apprentices at Hairven. I stressed to the Chancellor the role that apprenticeships play in providing young people with the skills they need to succeed in employment.”
