Last week I took part in the ‘Partners Perspective’ Panel for the Birth Trauma All-Party Parliamentary Group. A series of Panels are currently underway to hear from individuals who have experienced birth trauma and discuss how we improve the ways we support such individuals across the UK. Since first being elected I have worked with different constituents who all had their own stories of trauma and loss in childbirth. There is more that can be done within the UK to support those who suffer trauma or loss in childbirth and I will keep working to do so.
Today I took part in a further panel on Birth Trauma within marginalised groups, where we spoke to a range of campaigners.
I have been pleased to have engaged previously with Forever Stars, a Stillbirth and Child Bereavement charity in Beeston, who do important work supporting families who have gone through loss in childbirth. I was pleased at last week’s session to wear their charity socks in Parliament. More information about the charity can be found here: https://www.foreverstars.org/
On Wednesday the Shared Parental Leave and Pay (Bereavement) Bill will begin committee stage, having worked hard to get to this point for two years, I am incredibly proud to see this Bill one step closer to becoming law. The Bill seeks to ensure those who lose their partner in childbirth have an automatic right to leave from their businesses - it is incredibly important and we are closer than ever to making it reality.
